Who We Are

Founded in 2019 in Baidoa, Bay Region, the Women’s Initiative for Climate Action and Peace (WICAP) is a local women-led non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peacebuilding, gender equality, and climate resilience across Somalia, operating in South West State, Jubaland, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and other regions nationwide.

WICAP was established in response to the devastating impacts of prolonged conflict, displacement, poverty, and climate crises that have disproportionately affected women and marginalized communities. Through advocacy, education, and community empowerment initiatives, we work to create sustainable livelihoods and inclusive peace.

OUR CORE FOCUS AREAS
  • Climate Action & Environmental Resilience We strengthen community resilience to climate change through awareness programs, sustainable agriculture practices, and environmental conservation initiatives.

  • Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution We facilitate dialogue, promote social cohesion, and support inclusive peace processes that empower women as leaders in conflict prevention and resolution.

  • Women’s Economic Empowerment We provide vocational training and income-generating opportunities to help women build sustainable livelihoods and reduce vulnerability.

  • Gender Equality & Advocacy We advocate for gender-responsive policies and strengthen women’s participation in decision-making at local and regional levels.

WHY WICAP MATTERS

Somalia continues to face complex challenges driven by climate change, insecurity, and social inequalities. Women and girls remain among the most affected by displacement, environmental degradation, and economic hardship.

WICAP believes that empowering women is key to building lasting peace and sustainable climate solutions across all states of Somalia, including South West State, Jubaland, Puntland, Galmudug, and Hirshabelle. When women lead, communities thrive. By integrating gender perspectives into climate action and peacebuilding efforts, we ensure inclusive, resilient, and community-driven development.
